Royal National London: Three Single Beds, a Family Room or Two Rooms?
Editorial review: · ZoneScout
For three people who each need their own bed, start with the named Triple category. Royal National’s official room page lists three single beds in Triple Room and Standard Plus Triple Room; Family categories have a double and a single. All are described for up to three people, but capacity and separate beds answer different questions. Choose the sleeping arrangement first, then compare the complete offer for your dates.
LondonMake the bed decision before the rate decision
This guide concerns Royal National Hotel, 38–51 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0DG, in Bloomsbury. Check that identity on both the offer and confirmation. The group lists City Sleeper separately; do not transfer its room descriptions to a Royal National booking.
Use the table to shortlist a layout before searching dates. These are published categories, not a promise that a particular room is available. For three adults, enter three adults; for children, enter their actual ages and ask which occupancy rules apply to that offer.
| Need | Layout to investigate | Confirmation needed |
|---|---|---|
| Each person has a separate bed | Triple Room or Standard Plus Triple Room: three singles | Exact category and three beds for the booked occupants |
| Two people will share | Family Room or Standard Plus Family Room: double plus single | Everyone accepts the shared double |
| Different sleeping routines | Two rooms, for example a twin and a single | Both categories, occupants and total; proximity is a separate question |
Read Standard Plus and extra-bed names in full
Standard Plus is part of a category name, not a substitute for checking the bed arrangement. Keep the full room name in your notes, including any Extra Bed wording, so that a later change of offer does not silently change the plan.
The rooms page also lists Standard Plus Twin – Extra Bed with two singles and an additional rollaway at extra cost. That is a different description from three singles in a Triple. If offered an extra-bed variant, ask what is actually supplied, whether it is included and how the room is laid out with it in place.

Decide how three people will use the room
Three separate beds solve sharing a mattress; they do not provide separate bedrooms or independent bathroom routines. Ask about space for open luggage, access beside each bed, sockets, ventilation or cooling, and the bathroom arrangement. Photographs need not show the exact room assigned.
Imagine three friends staying four nights: one leaves early, one works in the evening and one needs an early bedtime. A twin and a single might separate the routines, if both offers meet their needs. This is a planning example, not a stay review. A family comfortable sharing a double may reach a different decision.

Request one written summary of the whole booking
Before paying, collect the dates, guest names and ages where required, full category, bed layout and included services in one confirmation. Ask what is guaranteed and what is only a request. If separate beds are essential, resolve any mismatch between a booking site’s short label and the hotel’s description first.
For two rooms, add both complete stay totals, mandatory charges and breakfast arrangements; compare cancellation and payment deadlines for each room. Ask whether adjacency or a connecting door can be confirmed. Do not cancel an existing workable booking until the replacement has been accepted under terms you understand.
Plan arrival to the address, not just the Tube label
TfL lists Russell Square on the Piccadilly line. Use its journey tools with your real arrival point, travel date and time, then inspect the final approach to the hotel entrance. Station proximity alone does not settle transfers, luggage handling or whether the journey works after a delayed arrival.
TfL’s planner offers fewest changes, least walking and accessibility preferences. Set what your group needs and recheck service status before travel. A station listing lifts does not establish an entirely step-free journey. Keep a fallback arrival plan rather than treating today’s services or a headline airport connection as a guarantee for another date.
Coordinate access, bags and separate arrival times
The hotel advertises luggage storage and 24-hour reception. Ask how those services apply to your reservation: when bags can be left, how a late arrival should be notified and whether a separately arriving guest can obtain a key. Agree a meeting point and keep confirmation details available without relying on one person’s phone.
For access needs, ask about the proposed room’s doorway, clear space, bathroom, lift and entrance approach. The group accessibility page directs guests to obtain individual details before booking; it does not confirm measurements for your Triple room. Also clarify breakfast inclusion and timing if three people must leave together. Do not turn older queue anecdotes into a prediction.
Use area records after the room shortlist
Official pages were checked on 29 October 2026. No current rates, date-specific availability, room inspection or hotel stay are claimed. Public discussions supplied the original separate-bed question, not proof of current conditions. Choose with the written room offer, access answers and practical plan for the whole trip.
For additional area context, confirm the approximate hotel pin and explicitly request a supported 500 m ZoneScout report. Read the official source, period and completeness, then save a snapshot locally. UK Police records are monthly and locations anonymised; missing data stays unknown, never zero incidents or a personal safety guarantee. Coverage for this hotel has not been verified here.
